The Birth of "All By Myself" by Jacqueline Cross

I had just returned home from a White Coco photoshoot in the spring of 2024, exhausted but exhilarated by another season's collection. It's a happy time shooting fashion, especially with a model whose smile lights up every image and brings the gorgeous clothes to life. Those fashion shoots are long and I was ready to collapse with a refreshing elderflower presse before embarking upon the processing of 2000+ images.

Jacqueline swaps her camera for a paint brush with exciting consequences...

The phone rang as I slumped on the sofa. It was an Assistant Set Decorator. "We've been looking at the artwork on your website as we are sourcing a specific contemporary piece of art for a film that will be released next year....".

I found out later that it was only going to be the next Bridget Jones movie!!

I slumped no more. The artwork was going to be featured in the dinner party scene.  It had to carefully match a specific brief to fit in with the film set.  After thinking long and hard, the colours I used were a mixed blend of bronze, silver, pearlised white and a midnight blues.  My aim was to create a sense of luxury using a deep richness/blend of colours.  The size was very specific, a large 1m x 1m square. Luckily this is my favourite signature size of painting.

I can remember, as it if was yesterday, when I painted the piece. I was bare foot, outside in the Oxfordshire fresh air with the birds singing.  I was filled with excitement knowing where this special piece of artwork was going, on its extraordinary journey, in a room, alongside the well-loved and famous faces of the Bridget Jones cast.

Once completed, the original piece of art was carefully wrapped ready for the film set.  It was collected by hand and returned to me in perfect condition.  We've all imagined having dinner with a list of our favourite celebrities round the table. This was up there.

As you can imagine, I didn't hold back and excitedly went to watch the film the day after its release. It was all I could do to stop myself from jumping out of my seat when I saw "that scene" with my work hanging on the wall. It seemed wrong to be silently celebrating, whilst Bridget was quietly dying inside. Please forgive me, Bridge....

Spotlight on "Abstract Wall Art by Jacqueline Cross"

Jacqueline is inspired from being outdoors, elements of the forever changing sky, the sharpness of mountains and calm and/or stormy seas. She loves the rawness of a landscape.  The Bridget Jones piece "All By Myself" was based on an atmospheric landscape. If you look closely, you can see the hint of a sky and the earthy nature of the rugged terrain. If you fancy the idea of dining under the same atmospheric work, but can't stretch to the original, premium fine art museum quality Giclee canvas prints are also available to purchase.
